Borneo is the third-largest island in the world (after Greenland and New Guinea) and the largest in Asia. It is the only island in the world to be politically administered by three countries at the same time (Indonesia 73% – Malaysia 26% – Brunei 1%).
Kalimantan is the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo. The non-Indonesian parts of Borneo are Brunei and East Malaysia. The Indonesian capital is planning to move to Kalimantan Region from Jakarta at a future date.
A little more than half of the island is in the Northern Hemisphere including Brunei and the Malaysian portion, while the Indonesian portion spans both the Northern and Southern hemispheres.
Borneo is home to one of the oldest rainforests in the world. Borneo is the largest of the four islands making up the Greater Sunda Islands.
